![]() Above the Weeping World may be acclaimed, but it's seemingly buried in Insomnium's complacent catalog. Insomnium shows it off this album.Ĭompetent yet unremarkable such is the description for many melodic death metal bands. Somewhere they get lost in drinking and viking lore and promoting the glorification of war in their music, which is fun and all, but in my eyes, melodic death metal can do so much more. This album isn't genre bending, it works very strictly in melodeath, but it is the embodiment of what many melodeath bands strives to be but often can't quite achieve. The amount of heart and soul poured into this is almost surreal. Jesus man, where do I even start? The album resonates beauty, passion. Have you tried jamming Helcaraxe? | February 6th 17 It's not exactly expansive in terms of songwriting, but on this album Insomnium show that they've honed their craft to a masterful point. One of the best melodic death metal albums of all time, "Above the Weeping World" is chock full of solid, straightforward jams. Incredibly melodic and melancholy, but not any riffage or cool instrumental moments to catch my attention. If tou like that sort of music, here you are! Personally, not a big fan. The Gordon Ramsay of Music | February 28th 22įirst couple songs are generic af but it picks up and holds on, heart to grave is pretty damn solid. So touching and emotional.įew bands covey such emotion that u get wrapped in the music, this is one of them albums, this album isnt just music, but it takes u on a journey filled with intense emotion, one of the best melodeath albums in the 21st century, if not the best One of the most beautiful albums I've heard. Here's hoping they like, write some new riffs for the fourth, or it's going to suck harder than a gay guy in Greece. It's too bad they made the same album three times - it was amazing the first, just good the second, but boring the third. Insomnium can create a mood better than most, and they fully develop each of their songs before bringing them to an epic climax. And that's really what this album is all about. I find myself actually enjoying the "singing" on this album since the vocals just blend into the overall atmosphere. And don't worry if you don't like cookie monster vocals (I don't), these guys place the vocals a bit further back in the mix so they aren't so in your face. His drumming can best be described as atmospheric - it adds to the music istead of just creating the monotonous jackhammer pounding that is the standard for most metal drummers. It's nice to hear a drummer who knows when to use double bass and when not to. Everything is tight, the guitar work is superb, and the drumming is spectacular. That said, they've got skills nonetheless. Clearly these guys are trying to write good songs - not trying to show off their technical prowess. This album is one of the best I've heard in the last 20 years. ![]()
